Interview 04
One of two sisters caring for their mother, at a distance and later in a nursing home. Diagnosed in 1992. Carer has taken early retirement.
Interview 09
Carer is the oldest daughter of three children, who over many years found the conflict between responsibilities towards her mother and her young family very difficult. Carer is married but has given up her job as part time social worker.
Interview 11
Carer is a married teacher with her own family responsibilities (1 daughter 1 granddaughter) looking after her widowed mother. She is the youngest daughter of three children. Her mother was diagnosed in 1996.
Interview 13
Carer is a married daughter who looks after her divorced mother. She is a healthcare assistant with 2 children. Her mother, a retired dressmaker was a diagnosed in 2000.
Interview 15
Carer is married with her own family (2 children). She shared decision making with her brother and sister for her widowed mother who was diagnosed in 1998 / 1999.
Interview 18
Carer is a doctor sharing the distance care of their mother, with her sister (Interview 4). She is married with 2 children.
Interview 29
Carer is a married Doctor looking after his mother who is a retired teacher with the help of his sister.
Interview 52
Son caring for his parents who lived close by when his elderly father developed Alzheimers. Carer is married.
Interview 54
Carer is one of 4 daughters looking after their widowed mother. She has two daughters of her own and works as a script editor. Her mother never went to work.
Andrew
Andrew and his sister helped care for their mother and grandmother who both had dementia.
Andy
Andy helps care for his father, who has dementia and various other health conditions.
Cathy
Cathy, aged 56, is a full-time academic. She was the primary carer for both of her parents, both of whom had dementia. She was caring for her parents from a distance. She has a visual impairment that affects her daily activities. Cathy is White British.
Charlotte
Charlotte cares for her mother, who has dementia.
Dave
Dave cares for his father who has Alzheimer’s disease.
Ellie
Ellie cared for her mother, who had early onset dementia.
Helen
Helen cares for her mother, who has Alzheimer’s disease. Since Helen does not live close to her mother, she arranges for carers to visit to help her mother live independently.
Jenny
Jenny’s mother has late-onset dementia.
Jo
Jo helped care for her mother and grandmother, who both had dementia.
Keith
Keith, aged 65, is educated to postgraduate level and was not in paid employment at the time of interview. He was the primary carer for his father’s care and lived with his father. Keith describes himself as being on the autism spectrum and he is White British.
Kevin
Kevin, aged 64, is retired and caring for his father. He lives in the same town as his father and is the primary carer. Kevin is White British.
Marian
Marian, aged 71, is retired and caring for her mother. She was caring for her mother from a long distance until the Covid-19 pandemic, when she moved in to her mother’s house to support her. Marian is White British and educated to post-graduate level.
Mina
Mina is the primary carer for her mother, who has dementia.
Muskie
Muskie cared for her mother, who had Alzheimer’s disease.
