Carers of people with dementia
See a preview of “Carers of people with dementia”
In this section you can find out about the experience of supporting someone living dementia by seeing and hearing people share their personal stories on film. Researchers travelled all around the UK to talk to people in their own homes. Find out what people said about issues such as early signs, strategies, respite and money. The section of healthtalk.org was originally published in 2005 with 31 interviews.
This section has been updated with new research in 2023. Researchers spoke with an additional 24 people who shared their personal stories. In the updated study, people talk about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, delayed diagnosis, midiagnosis and contested diagnosis, challenging behaviour of the person living with dementia, their own health and fitness, and the importance of person-centred care.
