Evie

vie is a 20-year old non-binary person, studying in a University in the UK in pursuit of their bachelor’s degree.

Evie felt different from early adolescence due to their sexual orientation and lacking a sense of belonging and connectedness to others the same age. Although most of their friends had been accepting, they lacked the support of other people who had direct experience of LGBTQ identities and issues.

When they identified as non-binary, another layer of loneliness was added to their life. Although they felt that people have become more aware of different genders, they feel that non binary people are not well understood or represented by the media.

Being part of an LGBTQ alliance group have given them a sense of belonging and a platform to talk about their experience and be part of a community.

Evie described loneliness as a black hole inside them, that affirms their fear that they are not likeable. They also said that the pain can be almost physical.

Evie says they felt lonely due to having a different sexual identity than most other people they knew.

Evie felt different due to their sexual orientation and not feeling a sense of belonging or connection with others.

Being the only non-binary person in their social network makes Evie feel lonely.

Evie feels that having Borderline Personality Disorder “keeps loneliness around”.

Evie says social media is good for connecting with people but can also be ‘toxic’’.

Evie says loneliness doesn’t last and you will find somewhere you belong.
